Your challenges · Selling or taking over a business
How do you prepare a sale or a takeover?
Selling your business, taking one over, bringing in a partner: a handover is prepared years before the signing.

What we see
Selling or taking over: what is at stake.
Owners think about selling when an opportunity comes up, or when retirement approaches. Often too late: the business still depends on its leader, the numbers are not ready, and the value suffers. For the buyer, the risk is the reverse: buying blind.
We have been through it: BFO Partners grew out of a business that was founded, grown and then sold. We know what a buyer looks at, and what a seller forgets.
What we bring
- An outside view, with no habits and no filter
- The experience of a business leader who founded, grew and then sold a company
- Fixed prices, in writing before we start
- Written decisions, at every step
sales and handovers of SMEs and micro-businesses each year in France, at the very least.
of micro-businesses are sold before their owner turns 60 (67% of SMEs and mid-sized companies). Handing over a business is not just a matter of retirement.
Our view
A successful handover is played out on three fronts.
A business that runs without you
Autonomous teams, written processes, clients who do not depend solely on the business leader.
Numbers that speak for themselves
Clear accounts, a well-argued valuation, a file ready for buyers and banks.
An organised handover
A timetable, support for the buyer, and informing staff and clients at the right time.
“I founded, grew and sold a business. I know what each step costs.”
Your needs
Your situation, our advice.
Each situation calls for its own option. Here is what we recommend, depending on what you are looking for.
Want to prepare for a sale?
- What is my business worth, and why?
- What needs to change before selling?
- When should I start, and in what order?
Want to take over a business?
- Is what I see really what I am buying?
- What price, what financing?
- What should I do in the first hundred days?
Want to bring in a partner?
- What share, at what price?
- How should roles and decisions be shared?
- What should you plan with your legal advisers?

Example engagements
What does an engagement look like?
Example engagement
A business leader who wants to sell in five years
- The situation
- Forty employees, a fine business, but everything still goes through him.
- Our response
- The 72-hour diagnostic, then a three-year plan: organisation, numbers, sale file.
- The goal
- A business that can be sold without its leader.
Example engagement
A woman taking over a services SME
- The situation
- A target identified, an offer to make, little time to check everything.
- Our response
- A review of the business, a forecast, a financing plan and the plan for the first hundred days.
- The goal
- Buying with your eyes open.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I start?
With the diagnostic. It is the first step, at a fixed price, and it ends with a written decision. Its price is deducted from the engagement if it follows within thirty days.
Engagement or support?
An engagement builds something specific, in one go: a plan, an organisation, a dossier. Support follows you every month to hold the course. Many clients go on from one to the other.
Can I stop the support?
It is a twelve-month commitment, billed monthly, and it never renews automatically: at the end, you decide.
Do you work with our current providers?
Yes. We steer, they deliver; we change only what needs to change.
Why not a large firm?
Because you get the founder, not a junior. A business leader who has built, financed and sold a company, with today’s tools and a wish to move beyond ready-made formulas.
