Business website in Noumea: what actually brings in clients
Before they call, your customers search Google, look at your photos and read your reviews. What a business website in Noumea needs to show, and how to fund it.
A business website in Noumea does not need to be big to be useful. It needs to answer a local customer’s questions quickly: what you do, where, at what price, and how to reach you.
Your audience is online. DataReportal estimated that New Caledonia had 243,000 internet users in late 2025, or 82% of the population. Businesses have been slower to follow: according to the 2021 business digital barometer, the most recent published, only 2 in 10 connected businesses had a website, or 15% of all businesses.
That gap is an opportunity for a small business that gets the basics right. Here is what matters, in order.
What your customers do before they call
The journey is short. A customer types “plombier Dumbéa” (plumber) or “traiteur Nouméa” (caterer), looks at the map results, opens two or three listings, then calls whoever inspires the most confidence.
Google says it ranks local results on three criteria: how relevant your listing is to the search, distance, and prominence, measured partly through links and reviews. It also states that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking.
Your website then confirms the first impression: real photos, clear services, signs that you are reliable and an immediate way to get in touch.
Real photos rather than stock images
Stock images are easy to spot: anonymous offices, teams who look nothing like yours, landscapes from somewhere else. They say nothing about your business, and customers who meet you afterwards notice the difference.
Real photos show customers what they will find. As a minimum, plan for:
- your team, or yourself, at work and in portrait;
- your premises, shopfront and access (parking, entrance);
- finished work or products, with a before and after where possible;
- the actions of your trade, which show skill better than any text.
Google also recommends adding photos and videos to your business profile. The same images can be used on your website and social media, giving a consistent picture wherever people look for you. Our sister company BFO Photographie shoots this kind of corporate reportage in Nouméa.
Business website in Noumea: five pages are enough
- Home: what you do, for whom and where, in one sentence, with a call button.
- Services or products: one section per service, with an indicative price or range where possible.
- Portfolio: a few photographed examples, each described in two lines.
- About: who you are, how long you have been trading, your qualifications.
- Contact: tap-to-call number, address, map, opening hours, short form.
Write the way you would talk to a customer at the counter: short sentences, your prices or price ranges, your usual lead times, the areas you cover. Everything else can wait. A five-page site that is kept up to date does more for you than a twenty-page site left to gather dust. Test it on a phone as well as a computer, and check that a customer can find your number in under ten seconds.
Your Google profile and local search
A Google Business Profile is free. It is reserved for businesses that deal with customers in person, at their premises or at the customer’s home, and it must be verified before you can edit it. To make it useful:
- choose the most precise category available;
- fill in your address and opening hours, including special hours for public holidays;
- use exactly the same business name, address and phone number as on your website;
- add photos regularly;
- reply to reviews, good and bad, briefly and factually.
On your website, local search comes down to a few simple choices: name your services in your customers’ words, list the municipalities you cover (Noumea, Dumbéa, Mont-Dore, Païta) and give every page a clear title.
Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn: where your New Caledonian customers are
According to DataReportal (Digital 2026, late-2025 data), Facebook ads could reach 150,000 people in New Caledonia and Instagram ads 67,800, while LinkedIn had 97,000 members, up 9% in a year. These are advertising audiences and registered accounts, not active users.
In 2021, 48% of connected businesses were on social media, mostly on Facebook. Pick one or two networks, not four:
- Facebook for consumer customers: retail, food service, home services;
- Instagram for highly visual businesses: interiors, fashion, tourism, food;
- LinkedIn for selling to other businesses or recruiting.
One post a week, kept up over time, is worth more than ten in one month and then silence. Social networks send people to your website, which remains the only space you control.
One-off payment or monthly fee, and provincial grants
There are two models. With a one-off purchase, you pay for the build, then each year for hosting, the domain name and maintenance. With a monthly subscription, those items are included and the site evolves with the business. Compare the total cost over three years, and who handles updates, rather than the starting price alone.
The South Province can help with funding, subject to conditions:
- Commercial communication grant under the CASE grants code: up to 50% of the cost, capped at 1,000,000 XPF. It covers items such as a sales strategy study, brand and logo, signage, building the website and its search listing and hosting for the first six months (articles 1234-1 and 1234-2). Only eligible sectors qualify (article 1111-3).
- SudPro 2026: up to 125,000 XPF for businesses with 0 to 5 employees registered on the RIDET business register before 1 January 2026. Building a website is eligible; communication, social media management and recurring subscriptions are not. Quotes must be approved before 28 October 2026.
- Digitalisation grant for local craft and retail businesses: up to 50% of costs, capped at 250,000 XPF, for businesses of no more than 10 people, after a digital diagnostic. It is still listed in public grant databases in October 2026; check with the South Province that it remains open.
In every case, apply before you sign: the CASE only counts spending incurred after the province issues its receipt for a complete application (article 1121-2).
Three indicators to measure results
- Enquiries received: calls, forms, messages. Ask every new customer how they found you, and write it down.
- Google reviews: how many you have and your rating, month by month.
- Conversion rate: out of ten enquiries, how many become signed quotes.
Track them monthly for six months before changing tack. If you are just starting out, our Launching your business page puts the website in the context of your whole launch, and CAP DÉPART helps you review your offer, prices and first customers before you invest in communication.
Key point
A five-page website with real photos, linked to a complete and up-to-date Google profile, serves a small business better than an ambitious site that is never updated.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Facebook page replace a website?
It helps when you are starting out, but you control neither its rules nor its reach. Your Google profile is what appears on the map when people search for you, and your website is the only space you own: the three work together.
Does the South Province fund new business websites?
Yes, under conditions. The CASE commercial communication grant can cover up to 50% of the cost, capped at 1,000,000 XPF, for eligible sectors; SudPro 2026 accepts website builds, with quotes to be approved before 28 October 2026. Apply before you sign.
How do I appear on Google Maps in Noumea?
Create and verify your free Google Business Profile, choose a precise category, add your address and opening hours, upload photos and reply to reviews. Google states that you cannot pay to rank higher in local results.
